| Today's Daily Bible VerseStewardship Minute:Where to Give
A pastor once told his congregation, “I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that we have money for next year’s budget. The bad news is it’s in your pocket.” This is not really bad news: it’s the truth. You have the resources necessary to support many good causes and you are asked to decide how you will use those resources. You have to make the choice about supporting this congregation and its work. And of course, we not only place choices before you but so do many other organizations and institutions that are doing good.
No congregation is perfect, but we work hard, with God’s help, to do what we can to share God’s love and the Gospel to those in this community and in the world. We use our time and resources to minister to those who are hungry. We visit those who live alone and help families going through difficult times. We encourage the sick in their homes and in the hospital. We teach the youth and offer them programs and activities. We proclaim the Gospel through the spoken and sung words in this sanctuary. We give generous support to our District and Synod. We are an engaged and motivated church that needs the resources God has given to you. The good news is that our members are blessed. And the question remains, how are you going to use those resources? If you hold back and hoard your treasures, our mission and ministry will suffer. If, however, you are willing to give as God gives to you the resources, God will bless this church through your commitment of time and money, and we will be a blessing to others. |
